Quordle 7 sep

Quordle is an online word puzzle game like Wordle. Players guess four hidden words at the same time. You type a word, and the game shows the correct letters. Green letters mean the right spot, yellow means the wrong spot, and grey means not in the word. You have nine chances to find all four words. The challenge feels bigger than a normal Wordle game. People play it for entertainment and mental stimulation.

Quordle started as a fun twist to Wordle’s idea. A group of fans created it to increase the difficulty. At first, it spread rapidly on social media. Players liked the extra challenge and new style. Many play it daily as part of their routine. It gives a mix of fun and thinking skill tests. The game keeps your mind sharp and active. It has become a popular choice among puzzle lovers everywhere.

How to play Quordle?

Quordle is a word game where you must guess four five-letter words simultaneously in nine tries or fewer. Each guess applies to all four words, and the colour of the tiles (green, yellow, or grey) indicates whether letters are correct and in the right position, correct but misplaced, or incorrect, respectively.

Here’s a breakdown of how to play:

  • Start with a good starting word: Choose a five-letter word with common vowels and consonants (e.g., “adieu,” “orate”) to get as many clues as possible from your first guess.
  • Analyze the feedback: After each guess, the tiles will change color. Green indicates a correct letter in the correct position, yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong position, and gray means the letter is not in the word.
  • Focus on one word at a time: It can be helpful to focus on solving one word at a time, using the clues from your guesses to narrow down the possibilities for each word.
  • Strategise your guesses: Use the information from your previous guesses to make informed choices about subsequent words. Try to eliminate incorrect letters and identify the correct positions for the letters you know are in the word.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment: Try different combinations of letters to see what works best.
  • Use all your tries wisely: You have nine guesses to solve all four words, so make each guess count.
  • Scroll around the grid: Since Quordle is a larger grid, make sure to scroll around to see all the feedback from your guesses.

The Best Starter Words for Quordle

What should you play for that first guess? We can look to Wordle for some general guidelines. The best starters tend to contain common letters, to increase the chances of getting yellow and green squares to guide your guessing. (And if you get all greys when guessing common letters, that’s still excellent information to help you rule out possibilities.) There isn’t a single “best” starting word, but The New York Times’s Wordle analysis bot has suggested starting with one of these:

  • CRANE
  • TRACE
  • SLANT
  • CRATE
  • CARTE

Meanwhile, an MIT analysis found that you’ll eliminate the most possibilities in the first round by starting with one of these:

  • SALET
  • REAST
  • TRACE
  • CRATE
  • SLATE

Other good picks might be ARISE or ROUND. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO get more vowels in play, but you could argue that it’s better to start with an emphasis on consonants, using a starter like RENTS or CLAMP. Select your strategy and see how it unfolds.

Tips & Strategies

  1. Solve one quadrant at a time with your remaining guesses.

Once you’ve gotten some hints on the board, focus on solving 1 of the four words at a time. Start with the word that has the most green and yellow tiles and work your way across the board from most to least tiles filled.

  • If you have a lot of yellow letters in a word, think of common letter combinations that tile might appear with. For example, th, re, and en appear a lot at the beginning of words (third, throw, thank, reuse, relay, reply, enter, enemy, enjoy) while nt, nd, and ed appear a lot at the end (faint, scent, blunt, grind, blend, round, wired, payed, shred).
  1. Use words with 2 of the same letter if you’re stumped.

Sometimes, a word may include 2 of the same letter in multiple places. Look at your green tiles and determine if that letter appears multiple times in your word.

  • For example, if you had a green “o” tile in the middle space, think of words with double o patterns like floor, broom, and moose.
  • The most double letter patterns are ee (cheek, freed), ll (still, walls), ss (cross, dress), oo, tt (matte, attic), ff (staff, riffs), rr (carry, hurry), nn (funny, annex), pp (happy, penne), and cc (mecca, occur).
  • Ee, ll, ss, and ff are the most common double-letter patterns that end a word.
  • Double-consonants almost always begin and end with a vowel on either side.
  • Only use this strategy late in your Quordle game, when you’re truly lost on what the word might be. Using the same letter for a word early on limits your options and makes your guess less effective.
  1. Make use of the practice feature.

Quordle offers a practice function, allowing you to play the game without your score counting. If you want to warm up your brain before a game, go to the top of your screen and click the “Practice” button next to “Daily.” Then, when you’re ready for an official round, turn the practice feature off by clicking “daily” again.

  1. Research 5-letter words beforehand.

Refresh your memory by looking up 5-letter word combinations before each game. In addition, regularly scrolling through a database like Best Word List will help you expand your vocabulary with more 5-letter words to choose from.

If you’re truly stumped, you can also search for your exact 5-letter word by inputting your tiles into a Wordle/Quordle Answer Finder. However, most players consider this cheating.
